Shadows of Hope

It’s been a week of little sleep. One of our kids is struggling through a time of many anxieties and fears. Quite a journey. Then a message from a friend whose high school was rocked by suicide. Tragic.

So I listened to this song, a couple of times.

Life is full of light and shadow

O the joy and O the sorrow

O the sorrow

And yet will He bring

Dark to light

And yet will He bring

Day from night

When shadows fall on us

We will not fear

We will remember

When darkness falls on us

We will not fear

We will remember

When all seems lost

When we’re thrown and we’re tossed

We remember the cost

We rest in Him

Shadow of the cross

While some celebrate abundance from great crops in Alberta, others reel in loss from during floods in Thailand. What contrast of circumstance. I can’t imagine how heaven’s bank books will reconcile it all.

All I know in the midst of struggle is to turn to Jesus. His shadow is nothing like many other shadows of fear, pain, or death. His shadow offers safety, healing, and hope.

“Lord I will remember. I will rest in You. May your shadow cover us. May it cover those who grieve”

  1. Resting in Jesus’s shadow is so much better than fighting at all the other darkness, even if the road ahead is still obscured.

  2. This song can’t help but settle whatever anxieties I have been having. For me, I am in a season of seeing darkness in students in so many of my classes. So, now I am listening to this song and taking time to pray over the desks in my classroom and the students who sit there. Thank you for the reminder and encouragement today.

  3. So glad you found this annointed song I”ve wept many time”s listening to this song on the “here for you” CD which as some great added features and Matt Redman’s new CD song “never Alone”.Praying for you all all the time.

  4. Sam, I listened to a podcast this week by a YWAM leader, Andy Byrd. His perspective on shadows of hope sound like this: “Only on this side of eternity do we have the opportunity to choose praise in our pain and suffering. Only on this side of eternity do we have the opportunity to choose good instead of evil or sin. Only on this side of eternity do we have the opportunity to choose Jesus”.

Our choices on this side will give us the eternal opportunity to see Jesus in all His brillance- no shadows. In Hope we hold on to that. I pray a blessing of hope over you 4.

  5. Wow, Sam, I’ve never heard this song before. It’s great. I’m sure it’s one I will keep close… remembering the shadow of the cross and all that it offers. Mmmmm, sweet.
