Lately I have been experiencing a renewed commitment to prayer. I have less desire to talk about it and more of a desire to just practice it. I am praying more with my kids. I am praying more with my wife. I pray more with friends. I am praying more on my own.
The more I pray, the more I love it.
The more I love it, the more I depend on it.
The more I depend on it, the more I find life to be more focused and full of joy.
How is this earth shattering, you may ask? Isn’t the Bible to be full of praying people?
Yes but my life could use a little more prayer. I find few people who resemble the early fellowships of believers in the book of Acts who “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).
These days…as I pray I receive:
A Greater Clarity. Ever notice how God can clarify what humans complicate?
A Fresher Vision. Hybels was right, “vision does leak” but God a never ending source of vision. Why did I think I needed to read the next best book?
A Sense of Direction. My to-do list gets rearranged and re-prioritized. It’s not so much about efficiency, as it is about intimacy and a shared life with Jesus.
A Supernatural Renewal. He renews my mind, restores my passion, heals my soul, forgives my lousy actions…I become more alive. We have a conversation. As I talk to God, He talks to me.
There is something remarkably basic but remarkably life changing when we pray.
